How do I go about making a claim?
Find the policy details and contact your Insurance Company.
You’ll usually find that there are straightforward
instructions to follow about how to make a claim in the literature that
accompanies your policy.
Don’t worry if you can’t find the policy. This
is quite a common occurrence. Just click below on the relevant question
and it’ll tell you what to do.
If you do have your policy documents to hand, take a note
of the policy number and keep that safe, separate from the policy document.
Phone the Insurance Company and they’ll send you a claim form.
It’s worth remembering that the life Insurance Company
will be prepared to pay a valid claim promptly, but there are some procedures
that need to be followed carefully. Where the policyholder has died you
will need to send them a certified copy of the death certificate. In the
case of terminal illness, written confirmation from the doctor will be
necessary. You’ll find that your funeral director or doctor will
be able to help you.
Once you receive the claim form, complete the details and
return it to the Insurance Company along with the policy document and
the other essential documents. We recommend that you should send this
by recorded delivery.
Once the Insurance Company receives the appropriate documents
they will pay the claim promptly.
Incidentally, we recommend that you get your Life Insurance
policy written “In Trust.” This will mean that, if there is
a claim on your policy, the money goes straight to the people that you
intend to have it. This approach also avoids inheritance tax, which could
save up to 40%. This is a straightforward thing to arrange. The Brokers
Online Help Desk can do this for you without cost. Contact them on 01625
416 280.
